For immediate assistance, we have put together a list of common service questions that may help you solve your issue.
Power Chair Repair only recommends sealed lead acid deep cycle batteries for safety and longevity reasons. Using automotive/marine batteries poses a potential safety risk and will void your warranty.

When traveling with a battery-powered wheelchair or scooter, care must be taken to ensure that the battery is packaged per the requirements required your chosen airline. Generally this means that if the battery is mounted to a power chair or scooter, it must be disconnected and the terminals must be insulated to prevent potential short circuits. The battery should be securely mounted to the mobility device, or must be removed and packaged separately in a sturdy box or container marked with “Non-Spillable Battery”.
Sometimes it will seem like the batteries are not holding a charge, due to thermal cut-out. Thermal cut-out is a safety feature that will shut down the unit for 20-40 minutes if it detects the motors or controller is overheating. Allow the power chair or scooter to cool down and the full charge will come back. Try not to take the unit on long distance runs. This puts a strain on the motors/controller.
Temperature will also affect the batteries. It is good to keep the unit in temperatures between 50 to 80 degrees.Charging Batteries.

Some scooters, utilize Lithium-ion battery packs, which require different care than sealed lead acid deep cycle batteries.
Lithium-ion battery packs are expensive, so if you want to make yours to last longer, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Lithium ion chemistry prefers partial discharge to deep discharge, so it’s best to avoid taking the battery all the way down to zero. Most customers never reach the end of charge on the Luggie. Since lithium-ion chemistry does not have a “memory”, you do not harm the battery pack with a partial discharge
- Lithium-ion batteries age. They only last three to five years, even if they are sitting on a shelf unused. So do not “avoid using” the battery with the thought that the battery pack will last five years. It won’t. Also, if you are buying a new battery pack, you want to make sure it really is new. If it has been sitting on a shelf in the store for a year, it won’t last very long. Manufacturing dates are important.
- Avoid heat, which degrades the batteries. (refers to all batteries)
Remember to check the charge indicator by your joystick
